House in the Clouds
Original intended to provide an adequate storage capacity for a basic water supply to Thorpeness it is now a unique holiday home over 5 floors sleeping up to 12 people. 'the fairies really own this house, or so the children say; in fact they all of them moved in upon the self same day'.
Meare (boating)
The picturesque Meare with its islands and surrounds covers some sixty acres and has over forty acres of water. With over 100 boats for hire including rowing boats, kayaks, canoes, punts, dinghies and sailing boats - there is a vessel to suit everyone. Thorpeness Meare is a fun and safe activity for all the family. No-where is the Meare more than three feet deep.
Hugh and Penny Butterworth

Penny Butterworth and Hugh Butterworth have separate studios at The Barnyard, Old Homes Road, Thorpeness.
Visitors are welcome but to avoid disappointment please telephone first on 01728 453614.
Penny was a design and textile tutor and now works experimentally with mixed media. Hugh is a lino printer specialising in landscapes and buildings particularly on the Suffolk coast. His postcard are on sale in the Village Shop and include images of the Windmill, House in the Clouds, The Dolphin and the Shop.
